Bojangles is a chicken-centric fast food restaurant chain that was established in 1977, which is mainly situated on the east coast. They seem to be based on southern cuisine and have a wide array of chicken products, sandwiches, salads, and fried foods. However, due to the fact they fry their foods in beef tallow, nothing that they fry, not even their good looking sweet potato pie, is vegetarian.
That is not to say that they don’t have any good products available to vegans, in fact, I was kind of surprised by their vegan menu options, as it actually includes an option rich in protein: their Cajun pinto beans. Other menu options include:
- Cajun Pintos
- Mashed Potatoes (without gravy, although I am not sure if the potatoes themselves are made with dairy)
- Green Beans
- and their BBQ sauce
Like many of these restaurants, they do have a lot more vegetarian options, mostly catering to Lacto-vegetarians. These, as well as those mentioned above, include:
- Cole slaw
- Garden salad
- Mac and Cheese
- Plain Biscuit
- non-fried desserts
- cheese and egg biscuit
- Cheddar Bo
- all Sauces
Aside from the Pinto beans (which are probably spicy, if that is what you like, it’s even better!) there are no other protein-based option out there, but the wide array of plant-based foods out there for vegans and vegetarians to pick from is really good for someone who wants a quick bite to eat and does not want to be hungry again an hour later.
So try out some of their wonderful vegetarian and plant-based options!
