Eating Vegetarian At: Popeyes

EDIT: The only vegan menu option on here would be their Corn On The Cob (ask for it without butter). Aside from that, I learned from a manager at Popeyes that their fries and everything are fried in Pig Lard. I apologize yet again for giving another fast food place the benefit of the doubt.

How Popeyes is a little bit different than other fast food restaurants I have rated, merely because it works differenty than them. But at their core they are the same.

The main issue that I see with Popeyes is that a few of their menu options may SEEM vegetarian, but at their core, they are not. For instance, their mashed potatoes and gravy may SEEM vegetarian enough, but their sauce is made with Chicken Gizzards and Pork Tasso. Or how their green beans are mixed with Turkey Bacon.

Their Cajun Rice is also made with meat, and their Red Beans and Rice is mixed with pork fat. You can get the rice without the red beans, and mashed potatoes without gravy, but I hate to eliminate food that you will still have to pay full price for. So after we eliminated all of those, what we have left is:

  • Corn on the Cob
  • Cole Slaw
  • Cajun Fries
  • Biscuits
  • Mac and Cheese
  • Onion rings
  • Baguette

They also have Pecan Pie, Cheesecake, and Apple Pies for dessert. So they do have a wider selection to choose from, however, they don’t have vegetarian main menu options, but that’s OK for now. I would really like to see some Morning Star or Gardein chicken as a menu option, but for now there are enough sides to satiate a vegetarian until then.

The best foods on the list to eat would be the Mac and Cheese and the Cajun Fries, which are really good, and they do have fish if you are a Pesco Vegetarian. But for the most part it would probably be best to avoid Popeyes, like Mcdonalds and Rallys, if you are looking for anything vegetarian, granted, they do have more vegetarian options than places like Mcdonalds, and Rallys.
