Now those of you who have read what I have said so far, know that I don’t think overweight or obese people have an excuse when it comes to losing weight. Just eat low calorie, healthy foods, and exercise, and unless you have a genetic or hormonal condition, you will lose the weight. I don’t like the Heather At Every Size movement, and I am against Fat Positivity….
I am also against fat shaming when it comes to what happened a few days ago on the London Tube. A group who calls themselves Overweight Haters LTD started handing out cards to overweight and obese people on the London tube, according to many reports. The cards themselves read:
Our organization hates and resents fat people, we object to the enormous amount of food resources you consume while half of the world starves. We disapprove of your wasting NHS money to treat your selfish greed. And we do not understand why you fail to grasp that by eating less you will be better off, slimmer, happy, and find a partner that is not a perverted chubby-chaser, or even find a partner at all!
To a point I do agree with what the card says, Obesity for the most part is a choice that causes harm all over the world, causing economic distress to the taxpayer, harm to the person choosing to overeat, it’s like smoking if smoking wasn’t an addiction.
But, I don’t agree with the insults, calling fat people ugly simply because they are fat, saying that fat people cannot find a partner, and even handing out these cards to specific people at all makes this a disgusting act.
Write a blog about why fat people are an issue, hand out pamphlets around town showing how obesity is a serious issue, write books, talk about it on forums and the like, but DON’T walk up to overweight people and be a dick. And this is coming from someone who used to be obese, and is now currently overweight since I started a plant-based diet. I lost over 40 pounds, but I am still overweight.
I don’t think Obesity for the most part is a genetic or hormonal issue, but don’t be a dick about it. It’s like walking up to smokers and nagging at them about their “cancer-sticks.” It’s not right.
Also, no Guardian, handing someone a card on the train is not “harassment.” Thankyou.
